IN THE CATEGORY SPECIAL PLANTS OF THE WORLD: THE SHAMPOO PLANT

a.k.a.
Awapuhi
Zingiber zerumbet
Shampoo ginger
Pinecone ginger

The flower heads resemble large, red pine cones. As they ripen, they gradually fill with an aromatic, slimy liquid that can be squeezed out. This clear, fragrant juice is used as a shampoo/conditioner and gives softness and shine. Don’t you think this is bizarrely special?
